The Church is failing to speak to my generation. It is so stuck in its ways that it will not change, or will not change enough. It is driving away my generation. From hymns to custums of the church, the way it is arranged, the way it is organized, it is so static and unchanging. You may say God is unchanging, yes he is, but also his love is timeless, but also that love does change, some generations/cultures need God's providential work, some his forgiveness, but every single one need his love, its just that love is played out in a variety of ways. and then suddenly, people start stop coming to church and stop caring.
So the leaders of the Church still do not change, but instead they change their beliefs, this lordship salvation movement. You have to change your life to believe is not so much based on Scripture, but instead it is a way to make this generation "fall in line", and you know what, it is only going to drive them out of the Church. It may see a bit of immediate results, but it also will lead to driving away an entire generation.

Living in community, actively loving, and caring for those around you is hard. It is not hard when you have the desire, to love one person at a time, but its in those times that you feel like crap taht its hard to actively love others. It is so easy to be selfish, and pursue your own fun, and try to satisfy yourself, but instead to actively love others will fulfill us like those have no chance to, its about training my mind...and my body, its hard and sucks

So, Holy Cow

Shane Claiborne...i have never been so challanged by any human in my entire life. Seriously. I have always talked about how the essence of salvation is in how we take care of the poor. Jesus says that over and over again, but i failed in that, in that I was doing nothing myself to minister to those who are homeless, those who are truly in need, not just the ones who might be a little hurt. That is something we fail to do today in the world, we minister to those who are full of themselves, not those searching.

I was also extremely challanged in the community, which i also very much believed in, and thought was essential, but i have failed in my past to give to others...lots of love in little acts, to truly love those around me, and care about them. I have never felt like such a failure, and realize how it is relatively easy to get out of that failureness. It is amazing

How exactly do we relate the message of the Gospel to a postmodern world, where people seem to place so much on experience and the individualism that stems from that.

Personally I see it as a very complex issue...because
There are Good
1. It focuses on relationships
2. It focuses on who you are, and it is impossible to answer that without God, or at least will give out with enough time
3. It is based on the individualism found in Christ
4. So everyone is considered special and different

There is bad
1. No structures because everything is SO individualistic

I guess post modernism, has some bad, and some goodish...as in people are looking for truth, it just makes it hard when you go at "evangelism" or just sharing the good news in your life, when you go at it from a modernism view, as in, perhaps the most structurous worldview in the past of the world....it completely fails and is old, instead we need to look for a newer, better way of relating to our culture

This leads to the conclusion that it is very hard to share Christ because everyones experiences are different, but that is just peoples way of saying i dont believe that, BUT if they see a real relationship, the kind of individual love that we get from Christ, they could not help but want that, it is all they are searching for, and when someone is offering a perfect love, it is very appealing. They can in effect tell you who you are, why you are here, and give you purpose. It also helps us understand much of the equality found in the Bible.

It was written in a context in which not everyone was equal, there were huge differences, and it was amazing for them to hear that they were equal, yes its nice to hear that now, but most people think of everyone as equal, so now they want to hear about a God that wants to be part of their life, in realtionship with them, and in love with them.

anyways, just some thoughts, maybe some more later
